Community Justice Centres provide experienced mediators free of charge, to help people in dispute reach and agreement. In many cases, particularly if your dispute is about $10,000 or less, mediation can be a better alternative to court.
Alternatively, you can try talking to the person that owes you money or sending a letter of demand. More information can be found here on types of debts and next steps.
If your dispute is about more than $10,000 it is best to get legal advice before starting any court proceedings. Try LawAccess NSW for help with which court or tribunal is right for your matter.
To find out more information on starting a civil case in the Local Court or District Court and the next steps, see types of cases: civil cases.
If your matter relates to a tenancy case, please see the NCAT website.
If you have an order from NCAT that you're seeking to enforce, see Enforcing NCAT orders.
If you're seeking to enforce a NCAT order, such as a warrant for possession in the Local Court, see Federal Diversity jurisdiction.
